These chisels appear very good quality for the cost. The chisels themselves come sharp enough to use and the metal is thicker than I was expecting.I own a cheap Aldi set which I use for less desirable jobs e.g. removing window surrounds and other jobs that run the risk of gouging the chisel into a screw or brick and then a set of Stanley sweethearts for ‘finer’ work.At the £74 the Irwin’s fit a middle ground between my other two sets, but on early impressions, may make the Stanley set redundant. The metal on the Stanley Sweethearts looks to be better quality, but is significant thinner and, unless doing extremely precise woodwork, the Irwin’s will be used for 90%+ of jobs.

  2. Lee Crossey

Bought these to replace my older Stanley chisels , far superior. Great quality and competitive price

  3. Ava in France

These were bought as a present for my son who is a part time carpenter and cabinet maker. He was absolutely thrilled with them and said they were a good step up from his previous set of chisels and they are a pleasure to handle and use and the quality of the construction is solid. Not knowing anything about chisels I took a while to read many different product reviews. I decided on these as a good all round set at a reasonable price, with the most positive reviews from people who had used them for years. Not the cheapest option but for tools that will be used for years to come I think they are good value so I am glad I spent a little bit more. My son’s enthusiasm bears this out and I hope they will last him for many years too.

  4. Matthew Heenan

Easy to order and arrived on day I ordee we red it. Perfect for chipping out cable runs in the loft space to lay flooring

  5. LORI ANN

Husband had a set of these years ago which needed replacing. Ordering & delivery very straightforward. Chisels seem just like the originals and we’re a good price

  6. PD Crosby

    Excellent price for great chisels

Bought these to replace my old pretty much worn out and missing Marples chisels. My original set was over thirty years old and I figured I was due a treat. The quality seems (so far) and feels good as my old chisels and the set provides a good range of sizes. Each chisel has a plastic edge guard which isn’t clear in the advert pictures. Wasn’t fussed about the presentation box (see other reviews which describe it as cheap – cannot disagree with this point, but that wasn’t why I bought them). Probably most surprising was the price which is so much cheaper than buying individual Marples chisels. Don’t forget that the chisels are only factory ground/honed to 25 degrees and will need a 30 degree primary edge honed on them. Overall very happy with my purchase and this set will last a life time – well mine at least.

I asked a carpenter who came to do some work at our house which chisel set he would recommend. He showed me the chisels he uses and said he would use nothing else. He reckoned the cheaper ones all soon end up with damaged or cracked handles after a few hits. These were the ones he had, so I bought them for my husband for Christmas. He loves them (but he says it won’t necessarily improve his skill – darn!). It was definitely worth paying a bit more. The carpenter also recommended the leather pouch to transport them; although the box they are supplied in is excellent it’s not as easy to carry about as a roll.

  9. Ian

In a building career of over 40 yrs this is my third set of marples , I’ve had a few others over the years but always treasured these most . First set broke the bank back in the eighties, I’m sure I’ve only paid a little more for my latest ,(and probably last )set.
