I left my trusty 40-year old stanley on a fence post in my field after I’d fixed some rails back on and someone nicked it when they walked the footpath. I bought this and I think it’s even better. Same shape, same whack, but slightly lighter – and slightly shorter, so it actually fits into my tool box, unlike the old one. A good buy.I hope the thief hammers their thumb.

  3. PAUL P.

Its heavy. Its does the job well. As the shaft tapers and is metal, if you miss the target you dont split the shaft if its wood, or chip it if its FG.We have driven 1000’s of steel spikes into the ground with this for a fencing job and its well balanced and just like new after weeks of industrial use.We also use the smaller ones in the range. All are spot on.

After years of working on site with old fashioned hickory handled lump hammers, I thought I’d treat myself to this beast. Actually on first appearance it struck me just how small the head is and how light it felt in comparison to my usual lump hammer of choice, which is is only 1lb heavier at 4lb – no doubt its weighted better hence it feeling so much lighter, especially when striking something, so that’s good. Plus no more calluses with that comfortable rubber handle so another positive. The main thing that bugged me about my old hickory hammer was the continuous need to reinstate the ever loosening head on the wooden shaft. This new hammer looks like it will outlast all my tools, and probably me and I’m not that old! At £22 its not cheap, but if it makes my life just a little bit easier, its well worth it.So, to sum up, a nicely weighted indestructable (virtually) lump hammer

  5. Mr. Martin Brown

It is comfortable to hold with a well shaped shaft, so you shouldn’t accidentally lose your grip.Vibration does seem to be very slightly reduced. The hammer it is replacing was pretty good at that though. I THINK that is also a ‘Stanley’ but all identification marks have long since worn away. I have had that old one 44 years so it is time to retire it.The striking face is slightly convex, just as it should be. The diameter is far larger than I am used to though. It is almost twice the area of my old Stanley hammer. I can’t see any advantage in having such a large diameter striking face. It will however be a disadvantage if you strike near the edge as that will cause the hammer to try to rotate in your hand. Also, spreading the weight out rather than concentrating it in the head reduces the rotational inertia slightly, again making it more prone to rotation. I doubt it will be a disadvantage very often. In case anyone was wondering, this 16 oz hammer actually weighs 24.75 oz. It is almost exactly 16 oz forward of the balance point which is roughly 2.75″ from the centre of the striking face. The 2.75″ end of the shaft therefore acts as part of the effective weight. The handling/balance in use is just right, fortuitously nearly identical to my 44 year old one.Memo to self: Update this review in 44 year’s time.

  6. Susi F

Bought this as a replacement for and old, wooden handled hammer that was becoming an accident waiting to happen. It belonged to my father and I realised I had a sentimental attachment to a hammer, which felt understandable if a little weird! So finally I made the change and the replacement is excellent. Heavy enough to produce a good force, well balanced in my hand and comfortable to hold. It was a good price, and if it lasts as long as the old one it will have been a positive bargain. I would recommend this hammer to anyone looking for a home / DIY tool.

  7. Paul Watkin

    a very good hammer

  8. Amazon Customer

Good weight for knocking pins in.

  9. Genie

Bought this to remove some concrete slabs around a pond I am getting rid of. Very pleased. For A 3LB hammer, it’s surprisingly easy to swing comfortably. It made short work of the cement holding the slabs in place. Next job will be smashing them to pieces to go in the hole. The one-piece construction looks like this will be good for a good amount of use with no danger of the head becoming loose. The anti-vibration seems to work as my arm had no ‘tingling’ after use.

  10. Sean Edwards

Use in the dry lining trade very useful
