A. D. Jenney –
For small diameter stems, this makes pruning a one-handed job. I used to have to hold the stem that was being pruned with one hand and cut with pruners in the other, now I can hold a trug in one hand and drop the cut stem from the pruners with the other. The plastic hold plate can be unscrewed for cleaning, replacement or for the pruners to be used on larger stems without the hold feature. Although I would love a design where it can be more quickly removed and refitted without a screwdriver.

The old saying “You get what you pay for) is very true in the case of Felco products. Thees are a lovely pair of secateurs,I find with any tools the first time you hold them in your hand, even for 10 seconds is your opinion of the tool!!. I am 6′-4” and a retired builder and have big hands which is why I chose the model No4. From taking the tool out of the packet you can see the quality is there, and they just fit in to your hand as if they belong there. Very smooth cutting action and just slices through whatever you are cutting, a real please to use. I have always used anvil pruning shears, so this is my first time using bypass shears and they work just as well.I also own two pairs of long handled lopping shears, Felco of course. Don’t be put off by the price, they are WORTH IT.

The secateurs arrived promptly as usual from Amazon.I usually buy Wilkinson Sword which are reasonable but not of the best quality, for example the fastener on the last pair became very loose and began to lock the secateurs at will. So I decided to invest in Felco, which I knew were far more expensive but the Rolls-Royce of secateurs. The quality and feel of these things is fantastic. They seem even better made than my Swiss army pen-knife, and I can’t believe I am saying that! As it is only February I have yet to use them on anything other than a sheet of paper which they cut like scissors, just as a test. I have no doubt they will last for many years, and all parts can be replaced individually. Treat yourself and get some, now.

Very sharp and value for money

These were purchased as a present for my mum and she couldn’t be more grateful. As a resident in Spain living on a hillside, she needed a really sharp pair of secateurs to tackle the bushes and these were the perfect choice. The movement is smooth and easy for her arthritic hands and blades are VERY sharp – care should be taken!Value for money and I would recommend to anyone needing a decent pair of secateurs.

I am a professional gardener who broke two pairs of cheaper secateurs (Wilkinson – nice blades, weak and poorly-designed handles) in my first year, before buying a Felco no4 pair which are simply wonderful. 16 years later they are still easy to make very sharp and are working well, although now showing signs of wear: when they eventually give up the ghost I will be replacing them with exactly the same model.Every other professional gardener and tree-surgeon that I know has, if they tried other makes, ended up using Felco – there is no better: the only question is to check out whether you want the slightly smaller ones, or the ones with rolling handles, neither of which are for me. The model no. 4 is my ideal. Conclusion: in my humble opinion, but considerable experience, the Felco no. 4 is the best pair of pruners/secateurs in the world.

bought as a gift for my son, we are both well pelased,
reviewer –
Felco secateurs are the best money can buy! I already have a pair but I recently bought my two sons a pair each, the same model I have. I must have had mine for twenty years or so and they are still doing their job well. I have them serviced every three or four years. No problems at all and although they may appear more expensive than other secateurs, in the long run they are they pay for themselves.

Bought for my lady wife while she is doing her RHS course and my cheap Felcos are far to heavy…..
John E –
These are not cheap, but are well designed and well made from top quality materials. Looked after properly, these will last the professional and amateur garden many years.
