Bosch router perfect for light home and less occasional use as opposed to the blue Bosch professional range.Bought this little gem for making loudspeaker cabinets and the odd bit of carpentry work at home as when you consider a no make router would be not be that many shekels less so it’s definitely wirth oaying that little extra for Bosch’s wealth of knowledge in the electrical field. It has 1400watt’s of 230Volt A.C. power so it is plenty powerful enough for home use….no need for that 3-phase bench router really, is there ?It has standard collett sizes (1/4″ or 6.35mm and also 8mm) and has a nice smoith weighted plunge action and usable depth gauge on the body and stop on the base if you want to set up for repetitive work. There is a nice dust extraction facility which is proper handy especially with dusty (MDF ! Mask !) materials and/or indoor use and helps keep the workpiece view clear as well as your work area clean when you connect a suitable vaccuum cleaner which is priceless. There is an electronic speed control to fine tune bit/material speed and also soft start function so you don’t take off, nice !, which comes through experience from their pro-range, and much appreciated. Also supplied is a parallel guide but I suggest you find some 2″ by 1 ” finished face and some bee’s wax and affix to this guide to give better use although shortening the effective length of the guide you will appreciate it when set up right. You can always put your own longer bars onto the guide later on if you want to very easily or fab. a circular trammel (tangent). The angled handles are much more comfortable in use than the usual upright handles on other machines and there is a good safety switch sytem on these handles to power up the motor, nice. * The power lead comes out the top of one of these and can run up over your shoulder or to a safety dmsytem you may have (retractable socket from above head) to safely keep the lead away from the very high speed powerful high-current motor (up to and above 20,000 r.p.m.) )which is a good thing in respect of not chewing the power lead and you !

I bought this router for several reasons, the first being that I finally managed to kill my existing Bosch router after 20yrs of abuse. Every Bosch tool I’ve ever owned has been a quality tool that lasts, they might be more expensive than the cheaper tools on the market, but you get what you pay for.Another deciding factor was the 22 previous 5 star reviews, and my review is no different. If like me it’s been 20yrs since you last bought a router, things have improved in that time and mostly for the better. The one thing I don’t like is the fact you have to press and hold a button to change bits, this can be hard on the fingers and I much prefer the old method of placing a pin through a hole in the shaft to keep it in place, however I believe this is now the standard way of changing bits on all routers. The depth lock is now a lever rather than built into one of the handles and is by default always locked and has to be pressed to release which is big improvement on the old router. This model comes with a built in led that illuminates the work area and also a very handy case in which to keep it when not in use. The router is well built and solid and has a real quality feel to it. This model is definitely worth the £80 I paid for it.And once again Amazon’s customer service and delivery were what one has come to expect, excellent.

This is amazing for the price. Perfect for a beginner and beyond.

  4. Leigh

Solid, well built – but it would be, being Bosch. And… it makes a lovely mess with the sawdust, so that can’t be bad – I must be working if there’s that much mess…

This is a great router. I’d never used one before and it took a little getting used to – but after watching a few youtube videos and other demonstrations with routers from the Trend website – I was soon up and running. It does all the cut work that I want to do and trims beautifully. Its nice and soft to use and I haven’t come across any problems so far. As I am new to the world of routers I still have a lot to learn that I am very excited about. Its very stable and has different speed settings for different types of wood. So far I have only used two bits in the shank – a straight cutter and a trimmer. Both worked fine and created beautiful work that really made my work stand out. If you’re into routers as a beginner – for the price – this is a great one to start with. You can always buy a cheapish set of bits to practice with before spending more on higher quality bits. Great machine. I would highly recommend this for beginners. Once you know more about what you are doing – a router with a half inch shank will give you more stability – depending on the work you are doing. Good luck to new users.

I have never used a router before but I am familiar with a lot of power tools and machine tools.I was torn between this one and the more expensive POF 1400 ACE – however this one was on special offer so that made my mind up for me. And with the money I saved I bought a few bits.I used this fairly frequently for about 6 months on a big DIY project I was building. It does have a few limitations over the more expensive version but soon I learnt to overcome them.It doesn’t have an inbuilt light – I used a torchThe height adjustment can be a bit hit and miss for fine adjustment – but I used scrap bits of wood to get the correct height. The variable speed is good. The 3 different collet sizes (6mm 1/4″ and 8mm) gives you more versatility when buying bits so helps to keep costs down.Overall I’m pleased with the router and for DIY occasional use I think its a good buy.
