Robert –
I didn’t plan on getting such a large drill for my shed (man cave) as I hadn’t long previously bought a small hobbyist pillar drill. However that drill was a complete waste of money as I found out trying to drill a 6mm hole in a piece of 3mm steel flat bar. This set me on on course to find something better. I looked at Sealey and Clarke but eventually settled on this Axminster AP340PD. I’m so glad I did although building the drill in our living room just to check that there was no carrier damage, I thought what the heck have I done – this thing is huge! I had to lower my bench height to make it fit. It stands at a metre high and weighs 60kg.The drill runs quietly and smoothly. The belts are easily altered depending on what the job requires. My only niggle is the length of the tightening lever for the table – it is so long that it can’t fully rotate due to hitting the underside of the table. Being ever resourceful, I added another washer under the base of the lever which made it fully tighten when it was in the nine o’clock position.I hope it will give me many years of service.
