The media could not be loaded. Great powerful drill with plenty of functions normally present on pricier models. One such function which is not mentioned anywhere in the description, or even the instructions, is the variable speed dial which is incredibly useful. Especially with the power this has, so you can dial it right down so that you don’t take chunks of wall out when starting to drill into masonry and then dial it up once started giving a nice clean finish. Or for mixing with a paddle mixer you can get the speed just right and can even lock it on. Nice and easy to swap between modes too.I have a battery SDS drill I use regularly but this just has much more power, great for bigger jobs like ripping out old tiles or knocking up plaster. So far it’s holding up really well despite quite a few punishing jobs. The case is also pretty decent and the chuck that’s included is nice and heavy duty, bits are fine too but quite short.Overall a fantastic dependable and versatile drill and excellent value too.

For years I’ve had a little cordless drill which has been my go-to tool for most interior jobs that require drilling into plasterboard walls. That same drill doubles as a hammer drill, so one day I fitted it with a masonry bit in order to drill into some bricks next to my front door, where I wanted to screw on a sign. The wee drill – in hammer setting – eventually managed to make the necessary holes, but it was a looooooooong endeavour. That’s why I decided to go for this Amtech rotary hammer drill set: so I’d have a tool that was up for the job whenever I need to drill into masonry or brickwork. It was a good choice. Drill enthusiasts and professional tradesmen could go into the technical spec of the Amtech V6130, but as an amateur at DIY and home improvements, I’ll stick to the basics as I experienced them. The drill comes in a sturdy plastic case that also contains attachments and instructions. A good start. The V6130 feels more ergonomic than other drills I’ve used, largely thanks to its auxiliary handle at the front – an extra handle which is rotatable and extendable so it can be adjusted to each user’s favoured position. This enhances the drill’s safety in use, plus it makes for straighter drilled holes, as two hands deliver more stability than one. The main handle with trigger also feels ergonomic to me (although that won’t be the case for everyone – whether or not the handle is ergonomic depends on the hand that’s holding it). Importantly, the Amtech drill makes short work of drilling into concrete and brickwork. Apparently it’s capable of drilling into metal too, but I haven’t had cause to try that. And for simple indoor work I’ll stick to my little one-handed cordless drill just because it’s lightweight and I’m used to it.The Amtech V6130 is a corded drill. I don’t find that to be an annoyance. High-power drills such as this one would drain battery power at a rapid rate – no use for big jobs or long days in a workshop. So it really has to be corded in order to be able to deliver constant high power for an extended period. The set includes: hard plastic carry case, Amtech V6130 SDS rotary hammer drill, auxiliary side handle, depth gauge, 3 x drill bits (6/8/10 mm x 150 mm), 1 x 13 mm keyed chuck with SDS. That’s a lot of kit for your money, and the quality doesn’t disappoint. No criticisms at all. I like this drill a lot.

In tackling various projects around the house, the importance of having a reliable tool cannot be overstated. This particular drill has been a constant companion, effortlessly taking on everything from putting up shelves to minor renovations. The convenience of not having to swap tools for different materials is a genuine time-saver. It’s the kind of tool that feels like it’s made to last, with a build quality that instills confidence from the moment you pick it up. The handle design minimizes fatigue, making longer projects much more manageable.

The media could not be loaded. As you can see in my video, Amtech’s SDS drill is well made. The manufacturer has paid particular attention to the cable, which is a generous 2.4m long and very rugged, suitable for outdoor work. The drill is light for this category, only 2.58kg.The drill is supplied in a tool case, itself very sturdy, made from moulded plastic (polypropylene?) and in addition to the drill contains three SDS drills, a hole depth gauge and a 13mm keyed chuck. Why oh why most manufacturers supply a chuck I do not know – with the weight of an SDS drill you can easily break thin drill bits and how many people need to try? Virtually everyone, as a first purchase, would have a power drill (and probably the next a cordless power drill), so we already have the right tool for regular straight shank drill bits.Unfortunately, although the box says the content includes chisel bits, there are none provided. With chisel bits you can set the drill on “hammer only” (no rotation) and perform tough tasks such as splitting concrete and chasing-out electric cable channels in walls. What does SDS actually mean? Well, there are four versions: SDS, SDS Quick, SDS+ and SDS Max. All have fluted shaft designs such that a traditional chuck is not required – just insert the bit and twist to secure it. SDS is German (coined by Bosch): Steck (insert), Dreh (twist), Sitzt (sits). Internationally it is translated in English as “Special Direct System” or “Slotted Drive Shaft”. SDS guarantees the bit will not slip in the chuck and yields high torque, so basically SDS means high performance compared to regular drills and is designed to deliver a powerful hammer action. SDS and SDS+ are interchangeable, both will work with this drill. The tool has a two year warranty. It has a brushed motor but unfortunately you cannot replace the brushes yourself, the drill has to go to an authorised agent for such a simple task. There is also no access to to the gearbox for a grease top-up. These are the two items most likely to wear so it is a pity that you cannot apply any maintenance yourself.Video: On a PC, left mouse click the maximise symbol, bottom right corner, to view the video full-screen. Drill arrived well packed in a boldly printed Amtech branded carboard sleeve which held a nice quality moulded plastic carrying/storage case.Kit is comprehensive and includes the drill itself (with a built-in SDS chuck), a keyed chuck with key and SDS adaptor, a depth stop and also 3 x 150mm SDS masonry drill bits (6, 8 & 10mm).Slightly retro having carbon brushes rather than being brushless, the drill performs smoothly without too much noise.Being corded also is somewhat restrictive but that problem is easily solved with an extension cable. In use the drill effortlessly drilled through brick and concrete using the supplied 10mm bit and also managed to chip away some old concrete tiles using a SDS chisel without any problems. All in all a good all round drill to keep in the garage.

Having recently ordered the Amtech Corded SDS+ Rotary Hammer Drill, I’ve been thoroughly impressed by its capabilities, especially when tackling rigid materials like concrete and bricks. This compact powerhouse, weighing in at a manageable 2.8KG, is equipped with a robust 620W motor, delivering speeds up to 1250 rpm and an impressive impact rate of 6400 impacts per minute. The 2.4m cord is a convenient length for various tasks around the home. The drill’s design is pragmatic, with a sturdy plastic body and a comfortable handle. Although it lacks the luxury of rubberised grips, the neutral grip ensures a steady hold during operation. The variable speed trigger and the forward/reverse lever add to its user-friendly features, making it versatile for different drilling needs. Including three operational modes – rotary, rotary + hammer, and rotation stop – allows for various applications, from simple drilling to more demanding chiselling tasks. The package comes well-equipped with essential accessories, including a side handle, a depth stop, a keyed three jaw chuck, and three commonly used SDS drill bits, all neatly packed in a durable plastic case. This thoughtful inclusion is particularly beneficial for those who might not have these bits, providing a ready-to-use solution. While the drill holds its ground against more expensive alternatives, offering substantial value at £62.99, I noted that some similarly priced drills from renowned brands might provide additional features or accessories like chisels. However, the Amtech drill’s performance, especially with the handy roto-stop feature, makes it an excellent choice for home use and occasional DIY endeavours. My only slight reservation concerns the forward/reverse lever, which feels less robust than the rest of the drill. Yet, the peace of mind provided by Amtech’s two-year warranty somewhat mitigates this concern. My experience with the Amtech Corded SDS+ Rotary Hammer Drill has been overwhelmingly positive, meriting a solid 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a reliable, versatile tool I’d recommend to any DIY enthusiast looking to enhance their toolkit without breaking the bank.

It’s not often I need something as heavy duty as this, but when I do need one, I really need one!! Over the last year or so I’ve had to rent one twice and those two occasions have cost me significantly more than this one would have done if I hadn’t got it on Vine. The two that I rented were a De Walt and a Milwaukie and honestly, this one doesn’t feel that much different to either of those. It’s solid with a smooth lock up on the chuck as well as an easy unlock (Something the Milwaukie wasn’t so good at) There’s a decent length on the cable and even the plug feels relatively rugged compared to a standard plug.It comes with three bits (6, 8 and 10mm x 150mm) and these seem to be okay although honestly, I’ve only really done a couple of test holes in some brickwork with those having bought a larger set of drills previously.Obviously this isn’t a pro level SDS drill and if you started to use it like that, I doubt it would last long but for the hobbyist/home DIYer it certainly feels like it will get the job done and last a while as well. I’m definitely feel like I’ll get a few years use out of it so over all, very happy.

  10. ELEL

Sturdy, decent performing SDS drill, good for DIY use.Having already got a similar sized and specified Titan SDS drill, which at the time of purchase was a higher price point than this drill; this performs just as well and appears of equal build quality. The drill seems well constructed, with all the switches operating as they should, easy to switch between modes. Well balanced in use and with a decent length rubberised cable with moulded plug.It handled the included 10mm bit drilling into concrete without issue, and a chipping bit (not included) to break back a section of a concrete block, using the rotation stop position. It comes with three drill bits – 6 / 8 / 10mm x 150mm long and a removable depth stop. The included SDS to chuck adapter (keyed type) is a good addition, meaning full use can be made of the non-SDS drilling function. The forward and reverse switch sticks out and is possibly a bit flimsy, rather than the push through the handle type have got on my other SDS drill. All supplied in a solid case to keep all together, with some additional room for some loose drill bits to the side. Easy to pack the kit in, with sufficient room, unlike some of these types of tools where the case is minimally sized and difficult to repack once first removed!
