Nicholas Jon Reed –
Bought 1 two years ago, used really regularly. So good , so forgiving, robust and sturdy. So good I bought another one, as nothing better for the price appeared on the market.

I’d say this has been a great purchase. I’ve used mine for over five years and have just started looking for a replacement. Its lost the edge on the 400 side from a lot of use. I’ve used it for everything from kitchen knives to plane blades and turning chisels, even for checking plane sole plates. I think its probably a bit coarser than 1000 on the fine side. I’ve used all systems and even have a Tormek for turning tools, but this is so much faster just to touch up a plane blade or chisel than a Tormek.

Couldn’t wait to try this and am so happy with it! As a Chef, i’ve usually used whetstones or carborundum sharpening stones throughout my career, but the main Gripe with most of them is that they don’t have a non slip holder….. OR if they do due to their lightweight they still move around whilst sharpening! And you have to Bugger about with soaking them before and maintaining them after!Well problem solved with this! No movement whilst sharpening with this Bad Boy! It says you can sharpen dry or with water, from sharpening a knife dry then wet, I found it worked better wet for me! (an empty spray bottle filled with water works best for me!!)It’s Brought an old Santoku knife that had quite a pronounced heal from too much sharpening, back from the dead in a matter of minutes, Obviously i started on the 400 grit side to straighten the edge then to finish of on the 1000 grit sideIt’s a lot heavier than a usual stone i’d say it’s easily 2 and a bit kg, but this solves it moving around in my view! And also comes with a protective case!Great Price, Great Product, Sharp, Straight Edged Knives!

Purchased as I was fed up with cupped oilstones giving me an inconsistent edge on my tools. As an initial test, I lapped the bottom of a Marples 102 block plane, and sharpened the blade. Neither of which has been given any attention in 30+ years. The coarse side of the diamond surface did a good job of flattening the sole of the plane. The 1000 grit side took a lot longer than expected to polish up the surface afterwards. However, the 1000 grit side did a very efficient job of sharpening the edge of the plane blade. The product feels sturdy, although I remain sceptical as to how long the diamond surface will last. However, at the price I paid (£25), I’ll feel I had my money’s worth after a year of light use. Hopefully the base will be able to accommodate a replacement diamond platter in the future.I found the device stayed put in a laminated worktop and a stainless steel sink drainer without issue, even when worked hard. The protective pouch is a bonus, although a tad tight.

For its price, this is a great buy!I’ve used it for a short while now and it is replacing a 5 times more expensive diamond hone from one of the top brands. What you should know is that this stone is very aggressive. It removes far more material than any other stone with the same grit I’ve had. The 1000 grit side is biting more like a 600 or 800 grit stone in my opinion. If you are only to ever buy one single diamond stone I recommend you get a step finer stone than this for general knife and tool sharpening. The 1000 grit side leaves a fair bit of finishing on the strop so I would go to a 3000 in this brand first.I was a bit concerned about the base metal plate under this stone, since I had read that it is very soft and easily scratches. So I did a little scratch test on the side of it. It is indeed a lot softer than my older more expensive stone, so be careful not to dig into it. Treat it like a soft waterstone and I think you will be OK.

So I bought the faithfull set coming with a honing guide and the buffing compound.I will be very honest about this: my chisels got so sharp I literally managed to slice through wood (and my finger see picture) like through air. The sudden change of sharpness really surprised me. The diamond coated plate comes factory flat there unlike some cheap whetstone l had. The assembly is quite remarkable, i was particularly surprised by the holder bolts and the semi soft plastic used there. It reminded me of a plastic found on a festool router which i had for probably 10+ years and is still routing like no tomorrow. So big props to the faithfull brand making such a well thought and solid tool. Thank you very much, I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to a complete and definitive sharpening set.

I included this in my sharpening station in the workshop a couple of weeks ago. For just over £20 I was well impressed. Depending on which tool I’m putting an edge on, I may finish off with just a few strokes on a 2000/5000 wet stone and a strop or straight to the strop from the 1000 grit side. This has cut down on the amount of ‘flattening-out’ I need to do with a courser stone which I have now retired to a drawer. If I can get a diamond coated bar of the same size and similar price but higher grit it will not only make my sharpening area smaller because I can then retire my other stones. It will make the area cleaner because it doesn’t create the amount of sludge that stones do and although I still need a lubricant (spray on glass cleaner in my instance) I could get rid of the water bath that is needed to soak the stones in.

Lots of reviews of this already and I wasn’t sure about ordering but thought I would take a gamble since alternative diamond stones are so expensive. I am a hobbyist wood worker but have loads of badly sharpened (on bellies oil stones) plane irons and wood chisels. Well they are now all nicely square and sharp and the stone looks immaculate. No issues with the flatness of the plate I received and the diamonds are well and truly in place. I wish I had bought it 6 months ago but was put off by negative reviews. Considered water stones and more expensive diamond stones but in the end couldn’t afford it and thought I would gamble. I’m really glad I did. I can thoroughly recommend to any hobbyist or anyone currently still using an oil stone.

To be honest I was not expecting anything special for the Amazon price of 24.99. BUT, I just took delivery, and when the driver handed it to me, I nearly dropped it as it is much heavier than expected, I think 24.99 pounds is the weight. When I unpacked it. it is very well built and sits on the worktop firmly with ample grip to the worktop surface. For the average home cook who will only need to use this on an infrequent basis, it should last for many years and perhaps a lifetime. I am over the moon with this. YES, I can highly recommend the Faithfull Tools Diamond sharpener and base, and it’s an absolute steal at the Amazon discounted price of 24.99, and even at full price it would be a decent buy. Nuff said.

An excellent addition to my sharpening set-up. Fierce cut does the job quickly, and both the plate and the stand are well built – they’re not gonna fall apart. I have this feeling the diamond coating isn’t going to last as long as a more expensive stone, but to be honest for the price you may as well buy another because this does everything it needs to do. I use it in conjunction with a 1000/8000 combo whetstone which is just a little less aggressive and finishes the process nicely. And a final strop with compound gets razor-hair-shaving sharp everytime. I do recommend.
