First one was returned because it was minus a guide. Purchased a second locally and cut the width of a stone acrylic worktop and also sink cut out with a half inch straight router blade. Took 6 passes, but I took my time and it cut very well.

I bought this Silverline router as I needed one with a 1/2 router bit fitments. I must say to all those people who give this product a bad name, please remember this is only £65, plus its sturdy, well built, easy to operate, and cuts really acutely. Geat news.

Bought this router to replace one I bought a few years ago as my old one was 1/4″ collet and I needed to cut some kitchen worktops with 90 degree and 45 degree angles so needed a 1/2″ long series cutter and therefore needed a 1/2″ router. I had already bought a 900mm worktop jig as it was about as cheap to buy as it was to hire one and it was there for future. The same principle applied to the router, I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a top notch brand as it would only be used now and again. I read the reviews on the Silverline router and decided to buy one. I wasn’t disappointed, it cut the worktops perfectly and achieved superb joints. I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to do the same as I did – all I would say is take it easy with it and don’t try to cut too deeply in one cut. I followed the recommendations on the blurb that came with it and it was brilliant. Very pleased.

I bought this router a few weeks ago. I’m not a heavy user. I mainly use a router for routing channels in board or squaring off edges for jointing. Also I don’t use the guide as I prefer to set up a straight edge. I found this router very easy to use. The Plunge facility worked fine and unlike other reviewers I didn’t find it sticky or too firm. The micro adjust on the depth guage did seem a bit over the top when the router arrived but to my surprise I have found it to be actually very useful. I found that spraying a little WD40 on the plastic base plate does make the routing action much smoother. I haven’t used this router on a table yet so I’m not sure how easy it will be to fix it to the table. The actual foot plate of the tool is cast alluminium alloy and the tool seems to be reasonably robust in design. I only use 1/2 inch router bits and the collet seems to be pulling up fine on these. If you go on the silverline website you can get the guaruntee extended to 3 years. For product details. Use the 6 digit number on the top of the instruction leaflet (mine is 264895) as the part number. Use Luxembourg as the town and L-2338 as the post code. It took a while to work this out but it works and I now have a 3 year guarantee certificate (hopefully I’ll never find out if it works)

Always saw Silverline as a budget brand, but saw this (before the price jumped), read the reviews, and…took the plunge! It’s done everything I need, has some useful features you’d expect to find with more premium brands, and now I’m always looking for reasons to use it. I’m impressed. Can’t say fairer than that.

Been using this router for a while now and for the money I can’t fault it.Plenty of power, and that lovely gentle start which has got to improve the expected life of the motor as well as helping to keep the tool under control. Impressive build quality – compares very favourably with a Freud I once had. All the collets included – wow!Seen a few people comment about the spring being way too strong – I tend to agree somewhat, though have not found this to be too hard to live with….even though I am only a girl with matchstick arms – hahaha. If you’re determined enough you CAN get this router mounted under a bench quite safely. It is possible to defeat the none-latching pwr switch – I leave it to you to decide how that is done…oh and you’ll need to invest in a decent NVR switch too. If you like your fingers as much as I do, you’ll also need to come up with a good cutter guard because this beast will mush you as soon as look at you. As a bench mounted tool it really starts to show what it can do – more than up to the job.Have yet to really make much use of the very fussy depth control assembly, but not about to knock it for that.Overall, I am thrilled with this router and don’t have a bad word to say about it. 10/10

I am not going to using a router every day of the week so buying a tradesman standard router (apart from the cost) was out of the question and not justifiable. This router has had a lot of good 5 stars and I can see why.. this much power and some nice features like micro adjust, a cast aluminum fence, 30mm bush and multiple fit collets plus others.. for approx £55?Some are saying it is cheap plastic.. well it does say ‘DIY Series’ on the front of it! What do people want?It is heavy! not surprising for the power output… However it feels robust to me and I’ll likely fit it to an aluminium plate as someone else has suggested and use it inverted in some 15mm MDF as a router table top. If you buy a 5mm aluminium plate (approx 200 x 180 x 5mm will do) you can probably get away with using the existing screws into the plastic base faceplate.. that plastic plate is just over 5mm thick already; just remember to countersink into the aluminium so that the screw heads go flush to the plate.

This is my first router so please accept this as an amateur review. Nor am I a craftsman or woodworker who can give a professional lowdown. I had to repair some wood trim on the gables of my house. It was inevitably shaped and cut in a way that is no longer available, so after much internet searching I settled on forming the wood myself and reviewed the various router options on Amazon. This one stood out as being cheap, offering all the functionality I needed and having some good reviews. In particular it has a strong and easy to adjust fence. so far I have not been disappointed – except in my own routing skills on the first few tries! It feels solidly made and is easy to use. In particular the plunge depth is easy to adjust. I gather it also fits well into a routing table – which may be my next purchase. The plunge action is nice and smooth and it feels overall very tight. I doubt I will do enough routing to be able to comment on the bearings

Router satisfactory for diy use

April 2014. Needed a router to complete my kitchen work tops using a pre bought jig. I’m a DIY,er but switched on, so saw a bargain which proved good news.. As far as I’m concerned this package was a life saver as it arrived in perfect condition quickly, including a 30mm jig guide not a 16mm as stated in earlier posts. (Obviously been listening). The only thing I found a little disturbing was one of the two screws at the router head was loose and needed tightening to maintain the integrity of angle of cut! Pretty critical with a work surface! Just check all screws and all will be well. All in all, superb value!
