The company was founded in the City of Sheffield, which is famous for the production of steel, cutlery and hand tools and continues to be our home over 250 years later.
Carpenters’ Tools
A carefully selected range of popular carpenters’ tools, including sliding bevels, carpenters’ try squares, mortice gauges and smoothing planes. Classically designed with rosewood-stained hardwood handles and brass fittings, these tools hark back to the days of traditional craftsmanship and woodwork.

Such a pleasant surprise. Feels very substantial. Cut a good shaving straight out the box – which is a first for me- . The sole is reasonable flat but a little rough which is not unusual and nothing that cannot be improved easily on some abrasive paper or stone. The adjustable throat works well, staying ppretty square throughout the range of adjustment and is another easier fix. Biggest shock was the sharpness of the blade. While not perfect it was certainly as good as anything I have bought for cutting out of the box. So far it has retained an edge well. I wish all my purchases were as good as this.

I have been meaning to buy a small block plane for a long time but the price has always put me off. I had not come across this brand in woodworking before, i thought they were mainly into gardening equipment.The plane arrived with a very sharp blade and proved very easy to adjust. Great value for money, about half the price of the brand i would normally buy. I will certainly lookout for Spear and Jackson woodworking tools in future

I bought this because I had some doors to hang and I wanted to be able to make small adjustments if needed. Brilliant. So easy to use and takes me back to woodworking lessons at school. I have an electric plane but I find this to be too aggresive and it will now be consigned to the back of the shelf.
