As it says in the description this saw cuts well both across and with the grain. I found it cuts better with the lacquered coating removed from the blade with a drop of thinners. (It’s only added to prevent rust if the saw is kept in a damp environment and it definitely cuts better without it, although it does remove the pretend etching from the blade also!) I found the handle feels good but I have never used another to compare. It has a nice weighted feel to the saw and it is definitely quality compared to the plastic handled rubbish I looked at in the diy stores before settling to use amazon plus it was £20 cheaper here than anywhere else. I just need to master the art of saw sharpening for when this gets dull. But bare in mind I’ve been cutting loads of hardwood and it’s still going like a knife through butter. Overall I would say the handle could possibly have been made to look a bit more cuter but it is a lifetime saw that someone other than yourself is going to be pleased to inherit one day.

A welcome addition to my growing number of carpentry tools.I had purchased a much cheaper version , on inspection when it arrived the teeth on the saw were larger enough to cut down a large tree. This saw however is designed for more accurate woodworking.A quality tool

The handle was broken on arrival, but easily glued back together. Once that was done I found the saw to cut straight and relatively aggressively, but the kerf was wider than I liked. After a gentle adjustment of the set I found the saw easy to control with plenty of weight. The handle can accommodate a very large hand, and as it is attached with genuine screws rather than rivets it can easily be replaced if one chooses. I know of nothing in the United States, where I live, that can rival this saw for quality at or near the price, and with some tuning I think this saw, while already quite good as it comes, could be as good as anyone could need.

I haven’t used it yet but as soon as you hold it you can tell it’s a quality too’

I was after a good quality tenon saw and this Spear and Jackson does not disappoint! It has a good heft to it which makes for less effort when using it! I have a cheaper back saw but it doesn’t cut properly and is difficult to use and unlike the spear and Jackson you can’t sharpen it! I like using this saw and it will last me for many years, I’m very happy with this saw.

So it was apprecible cheap, something must have fell from height, the wooden handle took two dings/scrapes with a still perfect saw blade. The saw is a profession heavy-weight feel great in the hand, all the damage is on the wood below the hand, tomorrow in daylight hours it with show its might to the wood, and then decide how redeam its scarred looks.
Phil –
Good quality saw, however a bit on the heavy side.
