This is truly an excellent saw for the price! Paul Sellers was right…If you don’t know how to sharpen you can use it immediately after purchasing it just wipe off the factory applied protective cover to prevent it from rusting and it’s working fine. However it is worth sharpening it’s not that hard teeth are quite big one pass with the file on the gullet and the cutting will be even smoother and the finish will be nicer. Paul sellers has you tube videos how to sharpen cross/rip.The saw cuts amazingly as a crosscut with the default tooth arrangement. The saw blade is medium thick the saw does not bend the handle is very comfortable for me! The only minor downside is the pins instead of screws but at this price there’s nothing to complain about… I’ve had them for over 2 years and every now and then I just need to hit the pins and the saw sits perfectly in the holder again. Just wipe with cloth+oil after each use and you get a lifetime tool.I bought a second one and sharpened it as RIP. At this price maybe it’s even worth buying two as a spare:) I know what I’m saying because I’ve used more expensive saws – see in the photo that I have one Lie Nielsen and I think that we really don’t lose much and it simply doesn’t make sense to pay 5 times as much.100% recommendation!

These saws are brilliant. Whether you keep the hybrid tooth shape or file fully rip cut, they cross cut really well. As supplied they will rip cut reasonably well. Filed rip they fly through thin wood ( up to about 12 mm) for thicker stuff , buy the longer version which has larger teeth. This saw filed rip pattern will cross cut very well too.A small toothed rip saw will cross cut better than a cross cut saw will rip cut.The small teeth make this saw a good choice for finer work; cutting larger joints, accurate dimensioning etc.Can be resharpened in a few minutes with a triangular file. A saw for life for the price of 3 throw away saws.Only let down by the butt ugly handle. If they fitted a better one I am sure they would sell more.

Able to resharpen.I’ve reviewed good files to use and offer great value. look up Bacho double ended saw files on amazon.Only minor negative is that the handle is a little large.

I am in the USA and ordered two of these saws after shopping for them in the USA and finding that ordering from Amazon UK would cost far less than buying them here. Shipping was not expensive and I received them quite promptly; perhaps as promptly as had I ordered them from a retailer in my country. I am pleased with the saws. They cut well, although I had to clean whatever coating was on them to reduce friction. I personally find the handle a bit uncomfortable, but I believe relieving the edges will correct that for me. Other than the edges being a bit harsh for me the handle suits well. It is sized and angled well for me as I believe it would be for the majority of users. The saw is a bit short for me, and if I do not learn to shorten my stroke slightly I may order a longer version. This is not a fault, but if one is accustomed to a longer saw it might be a difficult adjustment and worth considering; I’ve dinged a workpiece a couple of times when I pulled the saw too far back and out of the kerf. I have saws that my father used at least eighty years ago and while this saw is not finished as finely as those saws it cuts as well and I believe it is an excellent value.

This saw with its wooden handle was a lovely example of a saw. I unfortunately had to return it but not for any other reason but that it was not the kind my husband was looking for. I had ordered the wrong kind. He was impressed with the saw itself and only sorry it was not the kind he wanted for the job he was working on.

It’s only at that moment when I’ve unpacked this saw and tried it out on a piece of pine that I realized how dull and poorly balanced my previous handsaws were. Straight out of the box, it performs better and faster than an electric jigsaw. It’s weighted just enough for it to cut into wood like it’s butter, without any need to push downward. All this for a price of a throwaway saw that doesn’t even try to cut anything no matter how hard you try. Great job Spear & Jackson.

I have to say, this is worth paying to have it shipped over to the USA where I live. A comparable saw (relatively inexpensive but made of quality materials and able to be resharpened) doesn’t seem to exist here. If you want to get into using a handsaw, this is a good option!

The package arrived to-day; earlier than expected. Trying to find a saw that one can re-sharpen these days is finding hen’s teeth,The saw is wee made and just the thing for the work I do. It is a good work’a’day tool
